Its dinosaur week at our school! There are so many fun things you can do with a dinosaur theme, and this weeks Seesaw Questions of the Day are no different. I think my students are going to love completing these daily tasks!

Every year, I have a handful of kiddos who just cant get enough of dinosaurs, but this year I have some all-out dinosaur fanatics: a few students who live, breathe, eat, and sleep with dinosaurs on their brains. I indulged them with some dinosaur activities way back in September, but I held back a little bit knowing the theme would come up again in our literacy curriculum this spring. So Ive spent the better part of the school year building anticipation for this very week. But then COVID-19 came along and now school is closed, which means we dont get to do a lot of the hands-on stuff I was planning for the classroom. Im pretty disappointed that I dont get to give them the week I had imagined. But Im going to do my best to give them some great distance-learning activities that will engage them and satisfy that thirst for all things dino related. And sometimes its the simple things, like these Seesaw Questions of the Day.
By the way, if you havent read my original post about my school districts distance learning plan for grades K-2, head over there now to get the scoop! But you should know, these activities will also be great for in-person learning!
Scroll through to see what theyre all about and start imagining how you can use them in your class, then grab the freebie at the end of this post. Youll get a download that contains all 7 weeks of the Questions of the Day that Ive featured on the blog. The best part? You can edit them to meet the needs of your own class and its super easy! Heres a quick video tutorial that shows you how.
Students draw a picture to solve the number story, then write the number sentence in the box. My class is ready for addition beyond 10, but you can always change the number story to fit the needs of your class!
Dinosaur themeThis Canva picture was too cute to pass up! Plus the sight words hide really well in the bright colors. Students move the green box around and the words appear like magic. Again, this is tailored to my own students the hidden words are the most recent ones my class has been learning. But you can easily edit the activity and insert the words your students are learning.
Dinosaur-themed sight word hunt for Seesaw.Students make inferences about the picture using the prompts, I see and I think. because.. They can either type the words in the box, write them with the pen tool, or record their voices using the microphone.
Dinosaur themeStudents move the words around to put the sentence in order. In the voice instructions, I point out that they can listen to the sentence on page 2 if they get stuck. I encourage them not to, but I like to have that extra support for a few of my students who may need it.
Dinosaur themeThis one is pretty self-explanatory: students move the pattern blocks around to build a dinosaur. Its fun to see who really gets into it some of the pattern block creations Ive gotten back are really detailed. Some students have even figured out that they can change the color and/or size of the pattern blocks!
