newbee here....will be buying a cart soon....thought i wanted 4 seater so visitors could go for a ride....but some said go rent a 4 seater if company is coming.......please give advice.........thanks

We have one of each. We use the two seater for golf but use the four seater for tooling around and shopping (and guests). More room for groceries under back seat. We also upgraded seats on 4 seater for comfort.

If we had to own only one, it would be a four seater. Gives more flexibility.

I would agree with that advice. We were really gun-ho about a 4 seater but found it was not as needed as much as we thought. Much easier to rent the size cart you need.

Same here. 4 seater is great for shopping.

We bought a 2 seater and I now regret it.

We just upgraded to a 4 seater, but ours has the option that the back seats fold up as well as the extension for the rear facing passengers feet. This design is only 4 inches longer than the standard 2 seater version. We purchased a Yamaha quite-tech and we love it.
The length was a concern for storage in the garage as well as space required in perpendicular parking along a street. Many 4 seaters with permanently mounted seats tend to stick out into the driving lane and present a hazard to the automotive traffic.
hope this helps.

We have a 4 seater and love it. Our bench opens up in the back so we also use it for shopping. We never regretted it for a second.

Monthly rate for a 4 seater is $400.00... you do the math.

2 seater is a good choice if you can get a deal... car from visitors can still be used.

We had a four seater for a year. Found out nobody wanted to sit in the back, so wife and I got stuck in back. Sold it and have had a 2 seater since.

Go rent one if you need it, that&#;s what I do. I use J&J carts they deliver and pick it up for short money,

We have a 4 seater Yamaha as our primary cart and it is built that way rather than just tacking a seat on the back. The roof rises in the back for rear passenger headroom and it definitely feel beefed up for the added weight it would carry.

Our first cart was a four seater. Glad we did it for all the reasons mentioned.

Would highly recommend not getting the four seater with the flip up seat. Pay extra and get the cart with better suspension and storage space under the rear seat.

Our second cart is a two seater.

We have 2 two seater's, wife has hers and I have mine. We use a shopping bag that is secured by the golf cart straps and holds everything we buy. When we have guests they use one of the carts and we use the other. Found with 4 seater's with rear facing seats those in the back have their own conversations and those in the front have theirs so the 4 seats get you nothing. With a rear facing 4 seater those in the back can socialize with the carts following them :). Factor in the sound of the gas engine and the conversation is even less. When kids and grand kids visit we rent a 4 or six seater depending on who is coming. Everyone's needs are different. Until you know how any cart will fit into your life it's hard to give good advice. There are folks that only use a cart when they have guests and use their cars for everything else. Then there are folks like my wife and I that use the carts for everything and only use the car when we must leave the bubble or it's storming. Take the input you find here but you must understand what your lifestyle expectations are here.

I have a 2 seater with a fold down seat in the back. Passengers face the opposite direction. Have used it once or twice for 4 people but use it with the back seat folded down which gives be a lot of room for hauling items. I have a wooden square frame on the back.

Agree. Those long four seater carts should park like cars do; parallel to the curb.

1. Determine Your Primary Use Case

Wondering if a 4 or 6-seater golf cart is right for you? Check out our blog post comparing the benefits of each!

3. Choose Your Power Source

  • Lead-acid batteries: lower upfront cost but much shorter lifespan and slower charging
  • Lithium batteries: longer lifespan (up to 10 years), faster charging, and better performance, but higher initial cost

4. What's Better, a Gas or Electric Golf Cart?

While gas golf carts have their merits, electric golf carts offer several advantages:

  • Lower operating costs and minimal maintenance
  • Eco-friendliness and quiet operation
  • Smooth acceleration and easy maneuverability

5. What are the Best Electric Golf Carts?

Some of the top electric golf cart brands known for quality and performance include:

  • Club Car: Refined designs and premium features
  • EZ-GO: Rugged build and customizable options
  • Yamaha: Advanced technology and reliability

At Backyard Escapism, we carry a range of high-quality electric golf carts to suit various needs and preferences.

6. Is it Worth Buying an Electric Golf Cart?

An electric golf cart can be an excellent investment if you prioritize:

  • Convenient, cost-effective transportation
  • Eco-conscious and quiet operation
  • Versatility for golf, neighborhood, and off-road use
  • Customization options to suit your lifestyle

7. How Fast Do Electric Golf Carts Go?

Most electric golf carts have a top speed between 12-25 mph, depending on the model and upgrades. Our carts strike an ideal balance of safety, performance, and efficiency for their intended use cases.

8. Evaluate Terrain and Climate Suitability

  • On-road golf carts for paved surfaces and mild terrain
  • Off-road golf carts with higher ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and more powerful motors for rugged landscapes
  • Enclosed golf carts with doors and windows for protection from rain, wind, and cold temperatures

9. What are the Disadvantages of Electric Golf Carts?

Some potential drawbacks to consider include:

  • Upfront cost compared to gas carts
  • Limited range and need for recharging
  • Reduced power for extreme hill climbing

However, many of these can be mitigated by choosing a high-quality cart with advanced features and proper maintenance.

10. How Many Miles Will an Electric Golf Cart Go on a Full Charge?

Range varies by model and battery type, but most electric golf carts can travel 15-25 miles on a single charge. Lithium battery options can extend this range up to 40-50 miles.

11. Is it Expensive to Charge an Electric Golf Cart?

Charging costs are generally low, averaging around $0.50-$1.00 per full charge depending on electricity rates. This is significantly cheaper than gas for comparable mileage.

12. Prioritize Your Must-Have Features

  1. Comfort upgrades: deluxe seats, rear flip seats, premium steering wheel
  2. Performance enhancements: lift kits, all-terrain tires, speed upgrades
  3. Convenience add-ons: cargo box, LED lights, windshield, mirrors
  4. Entertainment options: Bluetooth stereo, speakers, subwoofers

13. What is the Life Expectancy of an Electric Golf Cart?

A well-maintained electric golf cart can last 20-40 years, with proper care and timely battery replacements. Our carts are built to withstand years of regular use.

14. How Often Do Electric Golf Cart Batteries Need to Be Replaced?

Lead-acid batteries typically last 4-6 years, while lithium batteries can last 8-10+ years with proper charging habits. We offer both options to fit your budget and performance needs.

15. How Long Should an Electric Golf Cart Motor Last?

The motor itself can last the lifetime of the cart (20-40 years) with routine maintenance and responsible use. Our carts feature reliable, high-efficiency motors for long-term performance.

16. Should I Leave My Golf Cart Plugged in All the Time?

It's best to unplug your cart once it reaches a full charge to avoid overcharging and reduce energy waste. Our lithium batteries have built-in protections against overcharging damage however.

17. Set Your Budget and Consider Long-Term Value

  • Entry-level golf carts for basic transportation needs and lower budgets
  • Mid-range golf carts balancing cost with more advanced features
  • High-end golf carts with premium materials, top-of-the-line components, and luxury upgrades
  • Factor in long-term costs like battery replacements and maintenance

18. Why are Electric Golf Carts So Expensive?

Electric golf carts are an investment, with costs driven by:

  • High-quality materials and construction
  • Advanced battery and motor technology
  • Customization options and premium features

However, their long lifespan, low operating costs, and versatility often make them a worthwhile expense. When compared against a full size car for local trips, a lithium LSV golf cart makes for an appealing alternative even with the cost.

19. How Long Can a Golf Cart Sit Without Being Driven?

It's best to drive your cart at least once a month to keep the batteries conditioned and components lubricated. If storing long-term, unplug the batteries and follow manufacturer guidelines. In our case, you want to leave your charge between 30-80% in a cool, dry place, but also charge it once a month.

20. Can You Leave an Electric Golf Cart Out in Winter?

If you do need to leave your electric cart outside in the winter, it's a good idea to do the following:

  • Use a waterproof cover and/or shelter
  • Disconnect and remove the battery for indoor storage.

Our carts are designed to withstand a variety of weather conditions with proper precautions.
